Biker Women Roll Into Daytona
March 17th, 2009 by admin
This motorcycle woman’s ride over to Daytona was Sweet. It was a lot better then I had expected. Traffic from Tampa was light until we reached Orlando. It was slow going through Orlando but once we reached the other side it was easy cruising the rest of the way to Daytona. The only real issue of the day was in the morning we had stopped at a Denny’s to eat breakfast. We placed our order and waited. It was about forty-five minutes when the waitress came over to the table and told us the cook had lost our order. We decided to just skip the Denny’s and get back on the road.
Riding an HD 883 Low I had to stop for gas once. I get about 109 miles in between pumps. We rode over on the morning of the 28th and the neat thing was, my husband and I started from Tampa with just the two of us. A little ways into the journey we passed another couple heading over to Daytona as well. As we passed them they pulled up behind us. Down the road a few more miles we went by more bikers and in turn they joined our ranks. By the time we reached Orlando we had 30 motorcycle women and men behind us.
On the other side of Orlando we had picked up a few more. By the time we reached Daytona we must have had 50 to 60 bikes behind us.We stopped at a rest stop just before Daytona to stretch out legs and one of the couples that had been riding with us pulled up beside us to talk and introduce them selves. It was so neat to see the bikes and hear the rumble as they drove by into Daytona.
I think the ride over had to be one of my favorite parts of the day.
Daytona was wild. I have been to Laconia bike week and it was really cool, but Daytona was amazing. I have not seen so many motorcycles in one place in my life. Its hard to understand just how amazing it truly is if you haven’t experienced it for your self.Just imagine if instead of everybody driving automobiles, they all rode loud, cool and fast motorcycles. At Bike Week on main street Daytona, that is just how it is. It was wall to wall people all bikers in their own right.
Once we got to Main Street and found a place to park our bikes and we started to mingle. We took up position across the street from Sick Boy Motorcycles we had a perfect seat to watch as the motorcycles thundered past. The amazing thing that I am most proud of is, out of all the wall-to-wall bikers riding their own motorcycle at Daytona, at least a one forth were women. This was not really a surprise to me because we are growing in numbers every day.
The thing is, most of the biker women riding their own motorcycles weren’t all riding small beginner bikes; these women were riding really cool bikes. This is a true sign that we are able to get a real motorcycle and we are able to ride it, all by our selves. There was a biker woman riding a Harley FatBoy, other motorcycle women rode Harley Sportsters, some rode softails and another biker women had a Honda Shadow with a set of balls, I mean really, it had balls.
There were motorcycle women riding Honda 750s, Bikers women on Suzuki’s and I even saw a woman on a Buell.
There were also those biker women that choose to go above and beyond and these motorcycle women were riding some really sweet customs. One woman was riding a nice orange colored custom Harley Davidson with an S&S motor and two in one exhaust. Two Biker girls that stood out, really made a show for biker women everywhere. One woman was so sweet she was a little short thing but that didn’t stop her. She was small but the bike she rode was amongst one of the biggest I saw all day. She was riding a huge V-8 trike. It was more like half a car.
You Go Girl…
The other biker woman that stood out was a woman riding a super sweet black custom. I’m not sure what make her motorcycle was, I think it was a Big Dog, but don’t’ quote me on it. Anyway it was so good to see a sister stepping up and going totally custom.Believe it or not, I didn’t just stand on the corner snapping shots of other motorcycle women riding their own motorcycles. I did stroll up and down the main street to look around.
A couple of neat places I stopped at, that anybody going to Daytona Bike week must see is, Boot Hill Saloon and Wiseguys Watering Hole.Wiseguys Watering Hole had a great band and plenty to drink if you’re into it. Porkys BBQ was also set up in front of the Wiseguys tent. I think we had the pulled pork.
Boot Hill Saloon is truly something else. It was not at all what I had expected. It was like your every day biker bar but with a unique party atmosphere. There was an out door patio, but inside, the walls were completely covered with memorabilia. Above the bar was laden with the bra of brave women that removed them and tossed them over the wire.I knew of the bra tradition before I went on this journey and I was temped to find the biggest and most colorful bra I could find and toss it over the bar. I decided it would be best if I left that for another visit.
We decided that we were only going to ride over for the day and It was getting late in the afternoon, so we headed to the bikes and started for home. I must admit I wish I could have stayed a few days. There is so much to do and see it would take the week or maybe longer to take it all in. But, I can now say, this biker woman has done Daytona Bike Week, well for a day any way.
Below are a few of the other sisters
that rolled into Daytona.
